In 2024-2025 Scoil Bernadette have decided improve our whole school Wellbeing and Fitness as part of our School Improvement Plan and School Self Evaluation.
At the beginning of the year we all did a 10 minute test on our Running Track. We walked or ran as many laps as we could in 10 minutes and recorded our results. Hopefully at the end of the year we should see an improvement in overall fitness levels when we do it all over again.
To help us improve we will list all our class activities carried out over the year on this page.
March 2025: LFL1 are doing a March march. We are counting laps that we walk around Spraoi during our Wellbing classes when the weather allows us get out. We will update at the end of the month!
LCA 1 walked to the library and took a diversion on the way back.
We estimated we would walk 7000 steps and when we checked Ciara's smart watch, we actually walked 11,149 steps!! WOW!!!
LCA 1 have chosen Active Leisure Studies as our Elective this session.
Week 1 - We learnt about a healthy lifestyle, what does it mean and we all made one improvement to our lifestyle. These included adding more water to our diet, focusing on the cardio machines in the gym more and increasing the amount of protein in our diets
Week 2 - Today we learnt about the 5 components of Health Related Fitness. We had a class discussion on what activities can improve these components and after work experience we will be actually doing the activities we mentioned.. Did someone say the BLEEP test 😮
Week 3 - We did testing for flexibility and strength
LCA1 - Athletics
Every Thursday do a session with Colm from CSP. We have done Javelin, Hurdles and lots of Burpees!!!!! 🤢
3H on 12/11/24 and 5/11/24 - Wellbeing Walks and photography class @ Harpers Island and Millenium Garden.
TY's completed a four week MMA self defence course from 30/08/24-20/9/24. As well as self-defence skills, we learned how to properly warm-up, stretch and cool down. We built up our cardio fitness through running, boxing and kicking. Best not to mess with TY!!
On 27/09/24 TY's completed a 5KM orienteering route in the Glen River Park. We got to develop our teamwork and map-reading skills while getting fit!
3/12/2024 -Third Years 3H headed to The Glen Marine park for a healthy walk! 3K in 20 minutes! We followed this up with several walks in town and little Island.
Football Plate participants and Winners - Midleton Feb 25 - (All our soccer teams have continued to work hard at training every week and lunchtime matches every day).
March 2025- LFL2 are learning all about healthy lifestyles- the importance of eating healthy and getting lots of exercise. We are keeping record of our walking on a tracking sheet and we are using our Math skills to estimate our steps. We are working with Ms. Ahearne in PE to improve our fitness and agility.
